Some images from inside Mariana’s house. I was introduced to Mariana through her mom, Gloria, who I am following. I have not fully edited the images from Gloria’s house and really need to keep shooting her story, so I am not ready to post images. But since I was over Mariana’s house I thought I’d take the opportunity to photograph and will probably end up going back to shoot more at some point in the future. Mariana also lives in the same villa as her mom.
The term ‘villa’ or ‘villa miseria’ refers to living conditions and areas that are often very poor. Villa 31 began around 1940.

Wow, Caitlin! These photos are wonderful. I hope you do post more. The photos make me want to meet Mariana and sit down and have coffee with her. She must be an amazing woman. I also want to give Christian and Luciana hugs! You’ve really captured an essence of this family, they’re great!
