This is an informal list of things I run across that are free (or insanely cheap) to do here in Buenos Aires:
- MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires): Free on Wednesdays. Opens at noon. Not a bad museum, but it didn’t hold my interest that well. I did enjoy their book store however. Great selection of art books and this was the musuem that introduced me to the work of Argentine artist Xu Solar. I love his work.
- Bellas Artes (Museo National de Bellas Artes): Free all the time. Opening varies so check out the website. Great museum. They have a version of Rodin’s ‘The Kiss.’ A fanstastic statue of a great lip lock. Also have a few Monets, Picasso, and fastastic art from modern Argentina artists across the second floor. And to top it off, the third floor has daguerreotype’s taken in Argentina.
- Palais de Glace (Palacio Nacional de las Artes): Free! Currently has an incredible exhibit by the Asociacion de Reporteros Graficos de la Republica Argentina (think something like NPPA, or E&P out of the states) – incredible news photos on display until the 27th of July. The space is great for displaying with a central rotunda on the upper floor flooding light into the room. Check out the website for other shows.
- Ballet Contemporáneo: $5pesos. Yes, you read that right, pesos! For the Friday 1pm show. Amazing movements and incredible bodies. The program I saw had three parts and I really enjoyed two. Check out the website for information on their programs because obviously they change.

I did not know about the ballet. How wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
MALBA has a good selection of old and art films in its theatre.
Bellas Artes used to be free with the exhibition of Libreta Universitaria and students in general.
Museo de la Ciudad tambien es excelente Defensa y Alsina
